WELCOME!
BLESSED ELIZABETH OF BALDRONE, ABBESS
Blessed Elisabeth was descended from a distinguished family. She withdrew from vain worldly life to the Camaldolese monastery of Baldrone in Italy. There she was elected abbess because of her great intellectual gifts and her zeal for virtue. As abbess, she set the most beautiful example for all her fellow sisters. Once, when the monastery ran out of supplies, she presented her need to the Lord in fervent prayer, and lo, heaven immediately sent help. Two unknown men appeared in front of the monastery gate with four mules laden with bread, wine, oil and grain. They unloaded the foodstuffs and left as silently as they had come. The holy abbess's blessed death was made known to one of the sisters: she had a vision of the lamp, which she happened to hold in her hand, being lifted out of her grasp and carried away to heaven by two angels. This happened around 1280. Bucelin* lists Blessed Elizabeth's memorial also on July 4 and on April 26.
