WELCOME!
SAINT HERMES AND COMPANIONS, MARTYRS
Saint Hermes was a martyr in Marseille (Massilia), who is commemorated in the Proprium of this church. The Roman Martyrology* lists him together with Saint Adrian (Hadrianus) and several unnamed people. They suffered c. 239 during the reign of Emperor Maximinus.
In addition to these two martyrs, the following names are known to us from a martyrology discovered more recently: Gittheus (Getheus, Gotheus), Felix, Enuculus (Eunuculus, Emunculus), Januarius, and 24 unnamed individuals. A Leo is also mentioned among these holy people. In general, persecution seems to have been raging badly in the city of Marseille, since the documents referring to this place at the time in question speak of "innumerable holy martyrs".
