SAINT AMANDUS OF ULM

The name Amandus is derived from the Latin; it means the amiable one.

Saint Amandus, commonly called Henry Suso, a member of the Order of Saint Dominic in Ulm, was born in 1300 in Constance on Lake Constance. One theory states that he was called Amandus because his wonderful beauty, which was so great that wild robbers who once attacked him in the forest fell down before him and confessed. Others reckon that God himself gave him the name Amandus because Suso, filled with divine love, deserved to be loved by God in return. Suso ardently loved God, especially under the form of "Eternal Wisdom," who is said to have once visibly adorned him with a wreath of blooming roses. ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN OCTOBER Saints celebrated on the 19th of October WELCOME! SAINT LAURA OF CORDOBA, WIDOW AND MARTYR Laura, a widow and martyr of Cordoba in Spain, is mentioned in the Spanish martyrology of Tamajode Salazar, who refers to Luitprand, where it says the following: St Laura is said to have been of a noble family, and according to the wishes of her parents she married an equally noble man and gave birth to two daughters. After the death of her husband and her daughters, she went to the monastery of St Aurea, named St-Maria de Cuteclara, and after her martyrdom led the same for nine years as her successor. After she had made wonderful progress in all virtues, she was finally summoned to renounce the faith before a Saracen judge.
