WELCOME!
SAINT JUNIANUS, HERMIT
According to several martyrologies, Saint Junianus (November 15), a hermit at Rheims (Remensis), was baptized by Bishop Saint Remigius. Since, however, there is no information about him either in the Breviary and Directory of Rheims, or in the works of other Rheims writers, the Neo-Bollandists* infer in the Life of Saint Junianus on October 16 (VII. 842, nos. 23 ff.) that this Saint Junianus Remensis seems to be identical with Saint Junianus, who was probably also baptized by Saint Remigius, and for whom a special feast might have been celebrated on November 15. They therefore list just two saints with the name Junianus, namely S. Junianus Nobiliacensis and S. Junianus Commodoliacensis. The Elenchus* does indeed mention a "Hermit Junianus" on November 15, but without further details. Other hagiographers (e.g., in Migne*, the Frenchman Pétin, who should have known better) incorrectly place a "Hermit in the Diocese of Limoges" on November 15, which actually is none other than Saint Junianus (see above), who does also feature in the Elenchus* on October 16.
