MARCIN STRZODA, JESUIT


Because of his pious conduct, Marcin Strzoda (Martinus Stredonius), a priest of the Society of Jesus, was held in high esteem by Emperors Ferdinand and Leopold. Many events were prophesied by him that later came true. He was often ecstatic in prayer, and his body was lifted into the air. Filled with extraordinary love for the sick, he tirelessly cared for them, and several of the infirm were miraculously healed. Known for having strictly subjected his body all his life, he also abstained from all meat and wine for many years. He presided over the province of Bohemia twice. Finally, he went to his eternal reward on August 26, 1649, as he had prophesied, in the college at Brno. (Menol. Soc. Jesu 63).
