Saints celebrated on the 25th of July
SAINT URSUS, BISHOP OF TROYES
Saint Ursus is commemorated on July 25th and also on July 26. According to the Gallica Christiana*, this holy confessor was the seventh Bishop of Troyes, succeeding Aurelius. The faithful and conscientious fulfillment of all episcopal pastoral duties drove him - even when he was already decrepit and ill - to travel throughout his diocese. He succumbed to his exertions at Queudes (Cubita), then in the diocese of Chalons-sur-Marne, in the year 426. He was also buried there. The greater part of his mortal remains were later transferred to Troyes, to the cathedral and to the Church of Saint Stephen in Troyes. The faithful venerated them year in, year out until they were removed as dangerous to the state by the French Revolution. (VI. 167.)
