WELCOME!
SAINT SUIBERT, BISHOP OF VERDEN
Saint Suibert (Swithbert, Suibertus) (April 30 and September 4), the first bishop of Verden (Werden, Verdia, Ferda) in Westphalia, also called Suicbertus and Swibertus, is called "the Younger" to distinguish him from the holy apostle of Friesland, whose feast is celebrated on March 1. He, too, is said to have come from England as a missionary and, because he considered himself highly valuable in spreading the gospel among the Saxons, was appointed bishop by Charles the Great. Details of his life have not come down to us. His death is usually dated to 807. His memory is celebrated in Osnabrück.
