Saint Hemeterius, commemorated on March 3,
was a martyr who suffered alongside Saint Cheledonius (Celedonius) at Calahorra in Spain. The poet Prudentius says that the pagans burned the records of their martyrdom to spare themselves the shame of their defeat. The date of their martyrdom is unknown. Butler* (III. 350) lists him as Emeritus; the Roman Martyrology* as Hermiterius, and the Bollandists* refer to this saint as Emetherius (I. 228).
