Saints celebrated on the 28th of June
WELCOME!
SAINT MAURICE, ARCHBISHOP OF FLORENCE
Saint Maurice (Mauritius), commemorated on June 28, the seventh Archbishop of Florence, was murdered by Totila's soldiers in 545 or 550 and buried in the church of Saint Reparata. Initially, the Bollandists* listed him among their Praetermissi; the new, improved edition of Ughellus* of Coletus (Italia sacra III. 19 and 20), however, classifies this holy Archbishop as a Saint. This would not have happened if the veneration of Saint Maurice were uncertain, since Coletus had already compared the Bollandists'* work up to the month of July at the time of his writing (lines 334 and 335).
