| Encyclopedia of Saints |
Saint Anno, Bishop of Verona in Italy, was born in that city to noble parents and raised in a very pious manner. He subsequently entered the priesthood and, owing to his great holiness, was elected bishop of the same city, although he was initially reluctant to accept the office. He died in Verona around the year 780, during the reign of Charlemagne.
