Saints celebrated on the 18th of June
WELCOME!
BLESSED MARY THE SORROWFUL, VIRGIN AND MARTYR |
B. Mary (June 18). This blessed Mary, known by the epithet "the Sorrowful" (Dolorosa) or "the Wretched," is venerated in Woluwe-Saint-Lambert at the local Church of Saint Peter (in parochia S. Petri Wolvensis). She obtained a threefold grace from the Lord: that of poverty, chastity, and martyrdom. A young man, inflamed with love for her but rejected by her, falsely accused her of stealing a silver cup. Although she maintained her innocence, she was buried alive (the account does not specify by whom) and killed by a stake driven through her body. Miracles occurring at her grave bore witness to her holiness. Her death took place around the year 1290.
