KILLENUS, ABBOT OF IONA
Killenus (July 3), Abbot of Hy (Hia, Ia) [Iona], is not to be confused with Saint Kellenus or Mochellus, who are listed under March 26. Kelly* refers to him simply as Cilline Ab. Iae (Iona). Gorman* calls him Kellenus Droichtheach and states that he was a chaste and distinguished warrior who died in the year 747. However, as there is no firm evidence of his veneration, the Bollandists* have included him only among their Praetermissi (those omitted from the main calendar) (I. 631).
