WELCOME!
BLESSED HERVEUS, CANON
Blessed Herveus, (April 16), treasurer of the Church of Saint Martin in Tours, was of noble birth. He devoted himself zealously to the study of the sciences but suddenly entered a monastery without his parents' consent. The monks were reluctant to accept him, fearing that his enraged father might cause them harm. Indeed, his father forcibly retrieved him and brought him to the court of King Robert, hoping the king would persuade him to change his mind. The pious monarch, however, encouraged him in his resolve and intended to appoint him bishop - a dignity the pious man steadfastly refused. Nevertheless, the king appointed him treasurer of Saint Martin in Tours. He served there as a canon yet lived as austerely as the most zealous monk. He restored and expanded the Church of Saint Martin between 1001 and 1008. Afterwards, he took up residence in a cell near the church. He died in the year 1012. He was also the founder of the monastery of Beaumont-les-Nonnains.
