SAINTS SPANUS AND COMPANIONS, MARTYRS |
Saints Spanus (French: Espain), Syrus, Lupus, Benignus (French: Benin), Messapius, Principinus, Genitor, Theodorus (Tritorius), and Marcellianus are martyrs commemorated on October 25; they are venerated in the vicinity of Tours (Touraine) and Bourges (in agris Turonensi et Bituricensi). The name Syrus is missing from the French martyrologies; however, Beatus (Bié) appears in its place. They are said to have been biological brothers and to have died for Christ in the 4th century.
