ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN DECEMBER
Saints celebrated on the 16th of December
WELCOME!
Saint Modestus (December 16, or alternatively October 19), Bishop of Jerusalem - commemorated in the Menaia* on December 16 - is also included in the Elenchus*, though listed there with the title "Abbot." He lived in that capacity at the Monastery of Saint Theodosius in Palestine. In 614, he was appointed administrator by the exiled Patriarch Zacharias of Jerusalem, and in 633, he succeeded him in the office of Bishop of Jerusalem. He left behind a homily "On the Passing of the Most Blessed Virgin, the Mother of God," a work praised by Photius and published on several occasions.
