Saints celebrated on the 10th of May
Saint Solongia, commemorated on May 10, was a virgin and martyr for chastity around the year 880, is venerated in the Diocese of Bourges. She is the patron saint of Berry. Already as a child, she had vowed to choose the Saviour alone as her bridegroom in holy virginity.
A nobleman from Bourges, named Bernard de la Gothia, fell in love with her and, when she refused to follow him willingly, abducted her by force. She nevertheless escaped the abductor, who, however, caught up with her and murdered her. She was buried in Saint Martin-du-Cros. She is depicted as a shepherdess with a star above her head.
