SAINT PASTOR, MARTYR On July 26, Piazza * also lists two Roman Saints called Pastor on July 26:  Saint Pastor, Priest,  and Saint Pastor, a disciple of Bishop Erasmus , who died from the effects of the terrible torment of being tied to an untamed horse and dragged through the streets. The relics of this Saint Pastor are at Saint Peter's in the Vatican, where in former times an altar was erected in his honour (VI. 299-302). SAINT PASTOR, MARTYR OF ALCALA DEL HENAREZ Saint Pastor, a young boy, was a martyr at Alcala del Henarez (Alcala de Henares)  (Complutum) in Spain, a companion of  Saint Justus . His feast day is celebrated on August 6. A translation of Saint Pastor's relics is commemorated on March 7 (II. 143). SAINT PASTOR, ABBOT AND CONFESSOR Saint Pastor ( July 26 ), an abbot and confessor,  contemporary of the great Saint Antony  (Antonius), lived for many years in the strictest austerity in Scete (Sceté) in the desert. That excellent teacher of the spiritual life had taught him (cf. Jan. II. 142) that one must always humbly lay down one's sins before the Lord and never ever feel safe from temptation to the end of life. Saint Pastor was so dead to the world and avoided all risks involved with it, so that he did not even want to see his mother when she came to the convent, but comforted her that they would meet again in heaven and there spend ample time together  (VI. 307).   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN MARCH Saints celebrated on the 29th of March WELCOME! SAINT PASTOR AND COMPANIONS, MARTYRS (S.S. Pastor et Soc. M.M.) The name Pastor , in English Shepherd , reminiscent of the good Shepherd Jesus Christ, was in ancient times often given to the newly baptised, and especially to priests and bishops.  The relics of Saint Pastor, martyr in Nicomedia about the year 303, were venerated at the Franciscan church at Bologna. With him suffered Victorinus (Victor), Saturnin (Saturninus), Dola, Juliana (Julianus) and four unnamed companions. The first two of these holy martyrs are also mentioned in the Roman Martyrology *. Saint Pastor and his companions are also commemorated on January 12, 27, 28, and March 30  (III. 769).
