SAINT JULIUS AND COMPANIONS, MARTYRS Saint Julius obtained the crown of martyrdom along with Saints Victurinus (Victurus), Siricus (Cyricus), Felix, Paulus, Maximus, Victor, Simplicius, Pollio, Vitus, Calendinus, Appollonus, Marciana, Felicissima, Ethemia (Timia and Hernia), Marcianus, Lectissimus (Litissimus), Simia, Germianus, Felicia, Evasia, Gemellinus (Gemellina), Silvanus and other Companions. They suffered in Africa. The names of the Companions vary from martyrology to martyrology; several names are omitted, but other ones are listed instead, e.g. a Saint Honoratus, Victor etc. The Roman Martyrology * mentions none of these Saints on April 26.   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN MARCH   Saints celebrated on the 1st of March SAINT SIMPLICIUS, ARCHBISHOP OF BOURGES Saint Simplicius, Archbishop of Bourges, (Bituricae), is the 15th in the order of successors of Euladius. A former soldier, he was so respected for his knowledge and conduct. that when he was elected, the all the people declared for him, whereupon Saints Sidonius and Agrocius confirmed him.  From then on he lived with his wife as with a sister, fulfilled all pastoral duties with zeal, and showed himself to be a courageous defender of the faith against the heretical poison of the Arians. He died on March 1, whether in the year 477 or later is uncertain. His relics were buried in the church he built in his episcopal city, later called Saint Outrille du Chateau. (I. 34-38 Guerin). The Roman Martyrology states:  "Also at Rome, on the road to Porto, the holy martyrs Simplicius, Faustinus, and Beatrix , in the time of the emperor Diocletian. The first two, after being subjected to many different torments, were condemned to suffer capital punishment; Beatrix, their sister, was smothered in prison."   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN OCTOBER Saints celebrated on the 22nd of October SAINT SIMPLICIUS, ABBOT OF MONTE CASSINO Saint Simplicius, the third abbot of Monte Cassino, was a direct disciple of the founder of the Order, St Benedict. St Simplicius died around A.D. 570. His elevation under the Abbot Desiderius - later Pope Victor III - took place around the year 1071. This solemn exhumation is also mentioned by the Bollandists*. (Lech. and III. 768.) St Simplicius is also commemorated on March 29. The Bollandists * (Feb. II. 602) do not mention dates regarding him; according to Migne * he died around A.D. 535. St Simplicius is also commemorated on February 12.
