SAINT SERENA, MARTYR
Saint Serena (commemorated on August 16) was a distinguished Roman lady converted by the deacon Cyriacus.
SHE GAVE THE BELIEVERS MUCH COMFORT AND HELP
Many sources, including the Roman Martyrology, refer to her as the wife of the Emperor Diocletianus. Serena, at the time of persecution, gave the believers much comfort and help. The time and manner of her death - legend has it that she died of a deadly fever - is unknown; [she is also called a martyr].
SHE HAD BURIED THE MARTYR SUSANNA WITH HONOUR
Her body was interred next to the virgin and martyr Susanna, her relative, whom she herself buried with honour in the cemetery of St Alexander.
