SAINT NOITBURGIS, VIRGIN
Saint Noitburgis was a virgin of Cologne. Of high birth, she chose the divine Saviour as the bridegroom of her heart and went into solitude (according to Boll. Jan. I. 750*), accompanied by her cousin Plectrudis. Since she was still troubled by suitors here, she asked the Lord for the grace of being called away into eternity. Indeed she was heard. Bucelin* calls her a nun. Her lifetime falls into the end of the eighth century. It is not certain whether the so-called Chapel of Noitburgis (Noitburgis-Capelle) at Cologne does indeed bear the name of our Saint. The two princes of the apostles, Peter and Paul, have been patrons of this church since the earliest times. (Kampschulte, Kirchen-Patroc. p. 31). However, St Noitburgis' relics said to have first rested there. They were later transferred to the Charterhouse at Koblenz. In art, St Noitburgis is depicted praying in front of an altar at the moment of her death.
