SAINT CANNICUS, ABBOT

Saint Cannicus (Canicus, Caynicus)[Canice, Kenneth,
Kenny] was an abbot of the monastery of Kilkenny (Fanum Cannici) or Achadh-Bo [Aghaboe] in Ireland, a native Irishman. He died in A.D. 598 or 599. He is listed in the Roman Martyrology* as Canicus. When it says there that he was an abbot "in Scotia," it has already been remarked that in older works Scotia also designates Ireland.
