ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN FEBRUARY
Saints celebrated on the 5th of February
John Morosini (Johannes Maurocenus), the first abbot of the Benedictine monastery of Saint George the Greater (Giorgio maggiore) in Venice, was a descendant of a famous family. He died in A.D. 1015. Zedler* (46, 1243) lists him as "Blessed John", stating the year of his death as 1012.
The Bollandists* mention our holy abbot in the life of Saint Romuald on February 7th (II. 107), where it is related that he and Johannes Gradenicus or Gradonicus (March 4) accompanied the Venetian doge Petrus Urseolus (in the Roman Martyrology* on January 10) on his flight to a monastery in Gaul.
Saint Gerard Sagredo was one of his students. (Buc. Suppl. p. 28)
Abbot John is also remembered on October 6.
