SAINT ALEXANDRA AND COMPANIONS, MARTYRS

Saints Alexandra, Claudia, Euphrasia, Matrona, Juliana, Euphemia and Theodosia suffered with Saint Derphuta and her sister under Emperor Maximian at Amysi in Paphlagonia on the Black Sea. They died a most cruel death for the sake of their faith, being stripped of their clothes, struck with rods, and after their breasts were cut off, hang up and mauled until their entrails became visible, after which they were thrown into a red-hot furnace. These holy martyrs are inserted in the Roman Martyrology* on March 20.
