SAINT HERACLIUS AND COMPANIONS, MARTYRS OF CORTONA
S.S. Heraclius and 3 Soc. M.M.
We know the names of Heraclius and his companions: Paulinus, Menserimus (Manemerus) and Diocletian (Diocletianus, Dijudicianus), but next to nothing else. The Bollandist Henschenius* assumes that these holy martyrs are identical with Saint Heraclius and Companions. In fact, this group features almost exactly the same names (with the exception of the fourth). Migne* calls the first saint Herle and names Cortona as the place of his martyrdom and veneration, and Saint Niderun as a fifth martyr (III. 571).
