CONRAD OF MARBURG, CONFESSOR
Conrad [Konrad] of Marburg (Conradus de Marburg) was the strict confessor of Saint Elizabeth of Thuringia, from whom she also received the habit of the Third Order of Saint Francis. He went to his eternal reward in 1257. [¹His cause of death was murder.
Under Pope Gregory IX, in 1231, Conrad was dispatched westwards in order to investigate heresy in the Rhineland; on his return from Mainz to Marburg he was attacked by several knights. They killed both Conrad and his assistant, a Franciscan friar named Gerhard Lutzelkolb. After Conrad's death, Pope Gregory declared Conrad to have been an upholder of the Christian faith.]
