WIPERT, BISHOP OF RATZEBURG
Wipert (commemorated on September 15 and May 23), the 16th Bishop of Ratzeburg, was a descendant of the noble Blücher family. Only 30 years old, but already grey in hair, he took over the diocese in 1356. The same stretched from the Bille and Wacknitz to Lake Schwerin and out to the Elbe. He led his flock with exemplary zeal. The pious bishop went to his eternal reward on September 15, 1367. His feast day is listed as May 23 in the records of the Premonstratensians. The first bishop of Ratzeburg, Evermod, who had died in 1178, had been a member of this Order.
