SAINT ELIAS, HERMIT AND MARTYR
Saint Elias [Elijah] was one of the holy hermits of Mount Sinai who lived in strict abstinence. Towards the end of the 5th century, all of them were massacred by the Saracens.
Saint Nilus, in his writings, describes their life and death in more detail.
