ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN APRIL
Saints celebrated on the 27th of April
Saint Theobald, commemorated on April 27 and April 18, was Abbot of Bec (Bec was founded in 1024) and Archbishop of Canterbury since 1138. He attended the Council of Rheims in 1148, despite King Stephen's prohibition. Since 1154, he faithfully assisted King Henry II in settling the political animosities of that time. In prudent anticipation of the impending difficult struggles, he had recommended his archdeacon Thomas Becket as Chancellor to the king. Saint Theobald then resigned, retired and died in 1161 at an advanced age. Quite a few writers list Saint Theobald simply as "venerable."
