ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN APRIL
Saints celebrated on the 20th of April
Saint Wiho, commemorated on April 20, the first bishop of Osnabrück [Germany] is also called Viho and Wito. A native of Friesland and a pupil of Saint Gregory of Utrecht, Wiho was selected by Charlemagne to head the Osnabrück church. Between 780 and 786, Bishop Agilfred of Liège had built a church there on the orders of Charlemagne, which was subsequently consecrated in honour of St Peter. The existence of the diocese can be historically documented since 803. According to some - admittedly not completely reliable - sources, he had the bishop's crozier for 32 years and was instrumental in the complete eradication of paganism and the burning of idols. His public veneration, however, is absolutely certain and beyond any doubt.
