SAINT PAXENTIUS, MARTYR
The holy martyr Paxentius of Paris was, according to ancient tradition, a disciple of Saint Dionysius. Therefore, some place him in the second century, others in the third. The holy virgin Saint Albina is said to have been his sister and to have been martyred with him. Their relics formerly rested in the Abbey of Saint Martin-des-Champs near Paris, where they were kept in a silver reliquary from the beginning of the 14th century. They were invoked as patron saints of the city, and their relics were carried around during processions, along with those of Saint Genevieve (VI. 568).
