WELCOME!
Saint Serena (feast day January 30, or alternatively June 25) was a martyr whose relics were transferred from Spoleto (not Cordoba) to Metz in the year 970 by Bishop Theodoric I and interred in the Church of the Mother of God. Accounts of her life and suffering are based on pious tradition. It is said that, following the death of her husband, she dedicated the remainder of her life exclusively to God and to serving her fellow Christians who were poor, sick, or imprisoned; she also buried the bodies of many holy martyrs. When the judge of Spoleto, named Lucius, learned of this, she was arrested and, after enduring many cruel tortures, gave up her spirit. This occurred around the year 291, during the reign of Emperor Diocletian. Her elevatio (the ceremonial raising or translation of her relics) is commemorated on June 25 (according to Canisius*).
