WELCOME!
SAINT VICTOR, BISHOP OF LE MANS, CONFESSOR
Saint Victor, Bishop and Confessor (August 26, formerly August 25).
This saint served as Bishop of Le Mans in France from the year 390 to 422 and received holy orders from the great Saint Martin of Tours. According to legend, he was working in his vineyard when Saint Martin passed by him on his journey to Le Mans. From that time on, he was to labour in the vineyard of the Lord. The veneration accorded to him as a saint bears witness to the zeal with which he performed this task. We may well doubt the accuracy of further details in the legend - namely, that the saint was already a subdeacon, that he was still living with his wife Maura, and that their son was already ten years old but not yet baptised. Saint Victor was laid to rest in the Church of the Holy Apostles, where his predecessor Liborius also reposed. His son Victorius became his successor. (V. 140.)
