SAINT ARCADIUS AND COMPANIONS, MARTYRS
S.S. Arcadius et Soc. M.M.
According to the Roman Martyrology*, which lists Saints Arcadius, Paschasius, Probus and Eutychian (Eutychianus) on November 13, were Spaniards by birth, and when they were unwilling to convert to Arianism in the persecution of the Vandals, were first proscribed by King Genseric, who was an Arian, and then exiled [to Africa] and finally, after cruel torture, killed in various ways.
At the same time shone the steadfastness of a boy named Paulillus, a brother of Saints Paschasius and Eutychian. When attempts had been made in vain to make him renounce the Catholic faith, he was beaten inhumanly with sticks and finally condemned to the lowest servitude.
Migne* relates that their martyrdom happened in A.D. 137, and that Bishop Anthony (Antonius) of Constantine wrote a letter of encouragement to these martyrs while they were still in exile. The same author states that at the time of his writing the letter still existed (El., Mg.).

PRAYER:
Grant, we beseech you, almighty God, that we who celebrate the anniversary of the death of your holy martyrs Arcadius and companions, may by their intercession be delivered from all evils that threaten us. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
