WELCOME!
SAINT PETER DUONG, MARTYR
The catechists m [Venerable] Peter Duong, Paulus Mi (see above), and Peter Truat were executed for their faith in Tonkin on December 18, 1838. By the grace of God, they courageously followed in the footsteps of the first holy martyrs. Peter Duong wrote shortly before his execution: "The bliss that awaits us, the thought of Heaven, to which we are already near, makes such an impression on my soul that it has no room for any other desire. A sinner as I am, I trust in the merits of my Redeemer and in the intercession of the holy Virgin and the blessed martyrs who await me in the bosom of God." Similarly, Peter Truat expressed himself in his last letter: "I am overjoyed to be destined by God for martyrdom." When "the prisoners of Jesus," as the pagans called them, had been executed, they were reverently buried by the Christians that same night, after two native priests, in the presence of two catechists, five nuns, and about thirty faithful, had offered the Holy Sacrifice.

PRAYER:
Grant, we beseech you, almighty God, that we who know how courageously your holy martyr Peter confessed the faith, may experience his goodness as he intercedes for us with you. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
