Saints celebrated on the 12th of July
WELCOME!
SAINT MNASON, BISHOP OF CYPRUS
Saint Mnason (July 12, or alternatively June 25).
Saint Mnason - also known as Mnoson and Mason - is said to have been one of the 72 disciples of Christ and a bishop of Cyprus. The Bollandists* surmise that he is identical to the Jason mentioned in Acts 21:16. In the Menaia*, he is referred to as a "holy martyr," and Saint Modestus, who is otherwise counted among the bishops of Jerusalem - is associated with him. The latter died in the year 634 and is venerated in the West on December 16. The name Mnason does not appear in the Hieronymian martyrologies*. Bede*, too, makes no mention of him, whereas Ado* identifies him as the Bishop of Cyprus. The Bollandists* also list him under October 19, associating him with "companions" (socii) hough without naming them. (Oct. VIII. 380.) It is difficult to ascertain anything with certainty. (III. 248 and 249.)
