ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN SEPTEMBER
Saints celebrated on the 12th of September
Prayer to the Angels and the Saints
Heavenly Father, in praising Your Angels and Saints we praise Your glory, for by honouring them we honour You, their Creator. Their splendour shows us Your greatness, which infinitely surpasses that of all creation.
In Your loving providence, You saw fit to send Your Angels to watch over us. Grant that we may always be under their protection and one day enjoy their company in heaven.
Heavenly Father, You are glorified in Your Saints, for their glory is the crowning of Your gifts. You provide an example for us by their lives on earth, You give us their friendship by our communion with them, You grant us strength and protection through their prayer for the Church, and You spur us on to victory over evil and the prize of eternal glory by this great company of witnesses.
Grant that we who aspire to take part in their joy may be filled with the Spirit that blessed their lives, so that, after sharing their faith on earth, we may also experience their peace in heaven. Amen.
ST MARCELLINUS, BISHOP
Saint Marcellinus was the successor of St Jacobus on the archbishop's chair of Tarantaise (Tarantasium, Darantasium).
The son of a patrician from Aximum, he was so close to St Jacobus that the latter recommended him as his successor.
HE BUILT THE CATHEDRAL AT MOUTIERS
St Marcellinus is particularly remembered for his establishment of the bishopric in the city of Moutiers (Mustierium, Monasterium), where he built the cathedral in honour of the Mother of God and next to it another (baptismal) church in honour of St John the Baptist. This is more or less all that we have had handed down to us about him.
HE LED THE DIOCESE UP TO THE MID-5th CENTURY
His predecessor died on January 16, 429; his second successor, Sanctus or Sanctius, attended the Council of Epaone in 517; before this, Paschasius headed the diocese. Therefore we deduce that St Marcellinus may have been most likely to have led the diocese up to the mid-5th century. The day of his worship is unknown to us, but it may well be the September 12.
