ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN AUGUST
Saints celebrated on the 25th of August
Prayer to the Angels and the Saints
Heavenly Father, in praising Your Angels and Saints we praise Your glory, for by honouring them we honour You, their Creator. Their splendour shows us Your greatness, which infinitely surpasses that of all creation.
In Your loving providence, You saw fit to send Your Angels to watch over us. Grant that we may always be under their protection and one day enjoy their company in heaven.
Heavenly Father, You are glorified in Your Saints, for their glory is the crowning of Your gifts. You provide an example for us by their lives on earth, You give us their friendship by our communion with them, You grant us strength and protection through their prayer for the Church, and You spur us on to victory over evil and the prize of eternal glory by this great company of witnesses.
Grant that we who aspire to take part in their joy may be filled with the Spirit that blessed their lives, so that, after sharing their faith on earth, we may also experience their peace in heaven. Amen.
BL. MARIA DEL TRANSITO CABANILLAS, FOUNDRESS
Blessed Maria del Transito Eugenia de los Dolores Cabanillas was born on August 15, 1821 in the ranch of Santa Leocadia, Carlos Paz (Cordoba, Argentina) in the bosom of a family of Spanish origin who had made a good fortune.
SHE ENTERED THE FRANCISCAN THIRD ORDER
After the death of her mother, in 1858, she entered the Franciscan Third Order, but she wanted a greater consecration to God. For this reason, in 1859, she made a vow of perpetual virginity and considered the foundation of an Institute for the Christian instruction of poor and abandoned children.
THE CONGREGATION
In 1878, having obtained ecclesiastical approval, she founded the Congregation of the Franciscan Missionary Tertiary Sisters of Argentina, added to the Franciscan Order. The new Congregation immediately had many vocations, and new convents were opened.
Maria del Transito died a holy death, leaving a great example of humility and charity. His Holiness John Paul II beatified her on April 14, 2002, and established that her feast be celebrated on August 25.
