Saints celebrated on the 30th of May
MECHTILDIS, VIRGIN
Mechtildis (Mechthildis) was a nun from Thöß in Switzerland, born in Stanz. According to Burgener she entered the convent when she was very young. She had a lively, cheerful disposition, but at the same time such an intense love of God that she often felt sick from it.
OBEDIENCE
The purity of her love of God expressed itself chiefly in the fact that it did not degenerate into exaggerated self-torture, but rather expressed itself in self-denial, in the practice of the strictest and most punctual obedience, even in the smallest things.
SILENCE
If this duty did not stand in the way, she also gladly practiced voluntary renunciations, namely strict silence, especially on the eve of the communion days and during the Advent and Lent season. She also - in the company of her fellow sisters - communed with Jesus. As a special means of perseverance in good, she practiced fervent devotion to her holy guardian angel She died blessed in God in 1396.
