Saints celebrated on the 28th of May
Prayer to the Angels and the Saints
Heavenly Father, in praising Your Angels and Saints we praise Your glory, for by honouring them we honour You, their Creator. Their splendour shows us Your greatness, which infinitely surpasses that of all creation.
In Your loving providence, You saw fit to send Your Angels to watch over us. Grant that we may always be under their protection and one day enjoy their company in heaven.
Heavenly Father, You are glorified in Your Saints, for their glory is the crowning of Your gifts. You provide an example for us by their lives on earth, You give us their friendship by our communion with them, You grant us strength and protection through their prayer for the Church, and You spur us on to victory over evil and the prize of eternal glory by this great company of witnesses.
Grant that we who aspire to take part in their joy may be filled with the Spirit that blessed their lives, so that, after sharing their faith on earth, we may also experience their peace in heaven. Amen.
SAINT MANVEUS, BISHOP OF BAYEUX
Saint Manveus, French Manvieu, otherwise also spelled Manuäus, Manucus and Mauväus, from Bayeux, became bishop there around A.D. 459 or a little earlier, but definitely after A.D. 450. He is fifth in the line of the bishops of that diocese.
It is said of Bishop Manveus that he started well, got better and better, and ended up doing very well. This is consistent with the information we have, namely, that he gained access to the bishopric by fasting, alms and prayers. He is said to have brought two dead people back to life by his prayers. Butler mentions that this holy bishop died in A.D. 480 and adds that he is buried in the church of St Exuperius, where his relics are still kept.
It is remarkable that for the last 47 days before his death, St Manveus lived on nothing else than the Holy Communion. His name is not mentioned in the Roman Martyrology. Incidentally, St Manveus is venerated as a patron not only in the city and diocese of Bayeux, but also in the bishopric of Coutance.
