ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN JANUARY
Saints celebrated on the 5th of January
Convoio (Convoyon), first abbot of Redon (Rothonum) in Brittany, was born in the year 788 in the Diocese of Saint Malo. He enjoyed an excellent education and was not only accepted into the ranks of the clergy by Bishop Rainer of Vannes, but even appointed archdeacon.
Burning with desire to serve God more perfectly, however, he went into a wasteland together with five clerics who were animated by the same spirit, and settled in a place called Rothon or Redon.
Soon several servants of God striving for perfection gathered around them, and gradually a monastery came into being, which he presided over as abbot, but which he left when the Normans invaded. The holy abbot and the brethren then moved to the new monastery that Prince Salomon had built for them. Abbot Convoyon died on January 5, 868, and later his body was transferred to Redon. (El., But.)
He is also commemorated on December 28.
