Saints celebrated on the 21st of June
BLESSED HEMMING, BISHOP OF ABO
Hemming (Hemmingus), commemorated on June 21, was a 14th century Bishop of Abo [Åbo] in Russian Finland, which had formerly been Swedish.
From his early youth Hemming gave the most splendid proofs of future holiness. While he was still canon of Abo, he received a heavenly revelation of the birth of Saint Bridget.
Gifted with an uncommon power of preaching and exhortation; Hemming was not bowed down by personal considerations; he did not seek popular favour. He awakened sinners to repentance and did not shy away from exhorting kings and bishops to change their ways. He avoided all idle conversations showed the worthy representation of a servant of Christ in everything he did.
After 20 years as bishop, his impending death was announced to him by heaven. Thus prepared for eternity, Hemming died at the age of 70, praying until his last breath. Weißbacher* (I. 498) lists him as "Saint"; the Bollandists* mention him but briefly (IV. 66.).
