Saints celebrated on the 16th of July
WELCOME!
SAINT REINELDIS, VIRGIN AND MARTYR
St Reineldis [Reinhild], born in 680, was the daughter of Duke Witger and Amalburga After the children had grown up, the parents, by mutual agreement, went into their respective monasteries and renounced their titles and properties.
Reineldis also lived a life of devotion, and after returning home from a pilgrimage, she is said to have built a cell in Saintes by Hal in Brabant in Belgium. There she lived as a hermit.
THEY WERE MARTYRED BY THE HUNS
In 680, when the Huns overrun the country and all the people fled, she was left alone with the deacon Grimoald and his servant Gondulf. The wild Gentiles attacked them in the chapel, where they were praying, and beheaded them.
St Reineldis is portrayed being slain with a sword. She is the patron saint invoked against festering and open wounds and against eye ailments, especially inflammatory conditions.
PRAYER:
Grant, we beseech you, almighty God, that the venerable feast of Saint Reineldis may increase our devotion and promote our salvation. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
