ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN SEPTEMBER
Saints celebrated on the 2nd of September
Prayer to the Angels and the Saints
Heavenly Father, in praising Your Angels and Saints we praise Your glory, for by honouring them we honour You, their Creator. Their splendour shows us Your greatness, which infinitely surpasses that of all creation.
In Your loving providence, You saw fit to send Your Angels to watch over us. Grant that we may always be under their protection and one day enjoy their company in heaven.
Heavenly Father, You are glorified in Your Saints, for their glory is the crowning of Your gifts. You provide an example for us by their lives on earth, You give us their friendship by our communion with them, You grant us strength and protection through their prayer for the Church, and You spur us on to victory over evil and the prize of eternal glory by this great company of witnesses.
Grant that we who aspire to take part in their joy may be filled with the Spirit that blessed their lives, so that, after sharing their faith on earth, we may also experience their peace in heaven. Amen.
SAINT SOLOMON LECLERCQ, MARTYR
Saint Solomon Leclercq (born Guillaume-Nicolas-Louis) is a French Lasallian martyr (1745-1792).
HE RECEIVED THE NAME "BROTHER SOLOMON"
Born in November 1745, Guillaume-Nicolas-Louis Leclercq joined the brothers of the Christian schools in 1767 and received the name Brother Solomon. After a number of years teaching mathematics, he was appointed as the secretary to the Superior General, Brother Agathon, in 1778.
HE REFUSED TO TAKE THE OATH OF ALLEGIANCE
At the time of the French Revolution he refused to take the oath of allegiance. He was arrested on August 15, 1792 and executed at the Carmelite convent on September 2 with 188 companion martyrs, including a hundred priests who refused to take the oath to the Civil Constitution of the Clergy.
Brother Solomon was beatified on October 17, 1926 and canonised on October 16, 2016.
A WONDERFUL MIRACLE
A wonderful miracle: In Sabaneta di El Hatillo, Venezuela, a group of the faithful gathered in 2007 there to pray through the intercession of Blessed Solomon for the care and cure of a five-year-old girl, Maria Hernandez, who had been bitten by a poisonous snake. As the doctors were making preparations to amputate the little girl’s leg, she suddenly recovered and her leg healed completely. The miracle, proven by a medical board of examiners, was attributed to the intercession of Blessed Solomon.
