Saints celebrated on the 6th of May
Prayer to the Angels and the Saints
Heavenly Father, in praising Your Angels and Saints we praise Your glory, for by honouring them we honour You, their Creator. Their splendour shows us Your greatness, which infinitely surpasses that of all creation.
In Your loving providence, You saw fit to send Your Angels to watch over us. Grant that we may always be under their protection and one day enjoy their company in heaven.
Heavenly Father, You are glorified in Your Saints, for their glory is the crowning of Your gifts. You provide an example for us by their lives on earth, You give us their friendship by our communion with them, You grant us strength and protection through their prayer for the Church, and You spur us on to victory over evil and the prize of eternal glory by this great company of witnesses.
Grant that we who aspire to take part in their joy may be filled with the Spirit that blessed their lives, so that, after sharing their faith on earth, we may also experience their peace in heaven. Amen.
BL. MARIA CATERINA TROIANI, MISSIONARY
Maria Caterina Troiani was born in Giuliano di Roma on January 19, 1813. She was orphaned at the age of six.
THE FRANCISCAN PATH
She approached the Bishop of Ferentino and asked him if she could be received into a convent as a nun. She lived and learned the Franciscan path with Saint Francis of Assisi as a guide and dedicated herself - with her fellow noviates - to education and the care of girls.
On December 8, 1829 she took the religious habit of the institute and took the name to "Maria Teresa of Saint Rose" in honour of Saint Rose of Viterbo.
Maria Teresa of Saint Rose established the Franciscan Missionaries of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. She was a member of the Third Order of Saint Francis.
PROMOTING THE GOSPEL ABROAD
She made it her mission to promote the Gospel abroad. She indicated to North Africa for this mission. In 1852 the Apostolic Vicar of Egypt requested that a Franciscan institute be opened in Cairo with the aim of providing education and vocational training to girls. The emphasis was on the poor.
THEY ENTERED CAIRO
She and four others left in August 1859 and met Pope Pius IX in early September who blessed them. The five embarked at Civitavecchia and Father Giuseppe Modena accompanied them. The group arrived in Malta to learn that the Apostolic Vicar of Egypt died suddenly. On September 14 the group entered Cairo.
HER RELICS
Maria Teresa of Saint Rose was Mother Superior of the Franciscan Missionaries of the Immaculate Heart of Mary until her death. She died in 1887 and was buried in Cairo. Her remains were exhumed and moved to Rome on November 3, 1967.
