WELCOME!

SAINT JOSÉ MARIA DE YERMO Y PARRES

José Maria de Yermo y Parres was born in Jalmolonga, Mexico, on November 10, 1851.

He was ordained to the priesthood on August 24 1879. After his ordination the new diocesan bishop (Sollano's successor) assigned him to the two small churches of El Calvario and Santo Niño; he departed for his new assignment in obedience to him. On one occasion he happened to see a group of pigs eat the remains of two abandoned newborns and this sickening sight made him feel as if he should help those who were abandoned.

The priest opened "The Shelter of the Sacred Heart" on December 13, 1885 to cater to the needs of the poor in a move that laid the foundation for beginning a new religious order dedicated to serving the poor. He founded several hospitals and orphanages as well as shelters for the abused.

He often said: "Let us speak about saints to forge saints".

He died in the morning of September 20, 1904 in Puebla de los Angeles after asking the nuns to sing the Ave Maria Stella; he was buried there at the motherhouse of the order. His order now operates in the places such as the United States of America and Nicaragua amongst others.

Information from Wikipedia

"To today's world, so in need of fraternity and solidarity, the new Saint teaches to establish new relationships in which generous, creative, concrete and dynamic service is capable of fostering a new climate of brotherhood for all in Christ.

To continue his work, his eminently priestly spirit promoted the foundation of the Servants of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Poor, to whom he left the witness of a unique commitment to the cause of Christ and the poor.

You, dear nuns, daughters of St Joseph Maria de Yermo, always keep alive your evangelical traits of humility and simplicity in the service of merciful love to your needy brother, serving them with the same sentiments of the divine Heart. This will help you to keep alive the ecclesial and missionary sense of your charism and your correct orientation in the social and spiritual apostolate in favour of the poor."

Pope John Paul II - May 22, 2000

PRAYER:

Grant, we beseech you, almighty God, that the venerable feast of Saint Jose Maria may increase our devotion and promote our salvation. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.

ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN AUGUST Saints celebrated on the 13th of August Marian Feast Days WELCOME! FATIMA APPARITION - AUGUST 13 The Fatima Children “BUT IN THE END MY IMMACULATE HEART WILL TRIUMPH.” But in the end my Immaculate Heart will triumph. The Holy Father will consecrate Russia to me; it will be converted, and a certain period of peace will be granted to the world. THE AUGUST 13 EVENTS On August 13, the children were in jail at Ourem. The civil administrator threatened to boil them in oil if they did not tell the Lady’s secret. Though badly frightened, they could not think of disobeying our Lady. In disgust, the administrator finally freed them. A large number of people, not knowing that the children had been kidnapped, went to the Cova for the scheduled appearance of the Lady. At noon, there was a loud clap of thunder. Then, according to an eyewitness: “Right after the thunder came a flash, and immediately we all noticed a little cloud, very white, beautiful and bright,...

ST BERTHA OF AVENAY, ABBESS AND MARTYR - 1 MAY

ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN MAY Saints celebrated on the 1st of May WELCOME! ST BERTHA OF AVENAY, ABBESS AND MARTYR The name Bertha (Berta) is derived from the Old German  bercht, brecht, bert etc., meaning shiny, splendid.  Saint Bertha, a martyr and abbess of Avenay (Aveniacum) in the diocese of Rheims, was descended from a noble family. Married to  St Gumbert (April 29), she obtained her husband's consent to join the monastic life. She then built the aforementioned monastery of Avenay. Following an apparition of the Blessed Virgin, she received many nuns there. Once, when Bertha was silently praying for water for her monastery, St Peter appeared to her and showed her a place where there was a spring, which then began to flow into the monastery in a running stream (ex quo fonte mox rivus egressus secutus est eam ad coenobium remeantem).  Finally, towards the end of the 7th century, she was killed by her stepsons - for what reason is not specified, perhaps in ...
