WINDISCH
Windisch is a parish and district town in the district of Brugg in the Swiss canton of Aargau, not far from the confluence of the Reuss and Aar and on the Zurich-Olten railway with a branch to Koblenz. It features a large cotton mill; 1300 inhabitants.
The Roman town of Vindonissa flourished on this spot, a busy trading town, the headquarters of a Roman legion and the main arsenal of arms for the Romans against the Germans. It was conquered by the Germans in 303, liberated by Constantine Chlorus, mostly destroyed by the Huns in the 5th century and completely devastated in 594 by the Frankish king Childebert.
There was also a bishop's see here. This was moved to Konstanz in A.D. 594 (according to other sources in 639). All that remains of the city's splendid and impressive buildings is an underground aqueduct.
