MAGDALENA HÖSLIN, VIRGIN
Magdalena Höslin was a pious and faithful Virgin of the congregation of the Grey Sisters of the Third Order of St Francis at Memmingen [Germany]. This institute was founded by Anna Schäferin from Isny with four sisters in 1447; it was called "Maria Rosengarten" or "Mariengarten" (Our Lady's Garden) and belonged to the Franciscan Province of Strasbourg.
In 1531, on the Wednesday before St Magdalene's Day, the matron Anastasia Daffrathshofen had to flee secretly with twelve sisters - disguised by wearing secular clothes - because they were determined to stay true to the Catholic faith. Most certainly, Magdalena Höslin was also among that group of faithful Virgins, because as the good sisters - who meanwhile had stayed underground at Kaufbeuren - were allowed to return home in 1549, she was their superior.
It is not documented how long she lived for after their return. But the many tribulations are related, which befell them and their congregation, and which they, firm and steadfast in the faith, successfully overcame.
(The Virgin Magdalena Höslin is also commemorated on December 10.)
