ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN MARCH
Saints celebrated on the 16th of March
BLESSED PETER COMBMAKER, RELIGIOUS
Blessed Peter, surnamed Tecelanus, or Pectinarius (combmaker) from his trade, was a member of the Third Order of Saint Francis at Siena.
After the death of his childless wife, he continued his business at the monastery. At the same time he was constantly occupied with heavenly things, speaking no more than was absolutely necessary, and persevering in fasting, watching and praying, so that the people called him a saint even during his lifetime. Because of his honesty and prudence in all things, he was often consulted in public and ecclesiastical affairs.
He died on December 4, 1289 in the reputation of great sanctity. The grateful citizens of Siena continued to cherish his memory through the ages until finally, in 1802, Pope Pius VII gave permission for the Franciscan Order all around the world to officially celebrate his festival on March 16.
