GUIDO DE CITONIO, RELIGIOUS

A page of one of Fortunatus Hueber's
Saints' books,
"Stammenbuch..." (1693)

According to the Bollandists*, Guido is listed as "blessed" in the Art. Mart.*. He was a Franciscan at Cetona near Chiusi (Clusium). The Hub. Men.* relates that Guido was often in ecstasy in prayer; his confreres more than once saw him floating like a flame in the air. He lived around 1305.

In 1506 a kind of elevation of his relics took place, but his veneration is not certain. Nothing definite can be found about him, since his name is sometimes Guido de Citonio, sometimes de Setona, and in some sources he is said to have died on January 30, while others state that he passed to his eternal reward on April 30.
