SAINT FLODOBERT, ABBOT
Saint Flodobert (Flodobertus, Fledobertus, French: St-Flobert or Frobert,) was born at Troyes (Trecae, Augustobona) in France , and was educated at the cathedral school there. His love of prayer, his spirit dead to this world, his modesty soon won him the love of his bishop, and induced him to tonsure him. Even as a young man, God is said to have bestowed on him the gift of miracles.
For a time he lived in the monastery of Luxeuil, but he returned and was then granted land by King Clothair II at Troyes for the building of a monastery, later called Moutier-la-Celle (Zellmünster). The institute lived according to the Rule of Saint Benedict.
In vain did evil slanderers seek to soil the name of Saint Flodobert. A numerous and thriving community soon arose, of which the saint was the father and model. He died on December 31, 673 and was buried in the monastery church. Bishop Otulf (Atulf) of Troyes solemnly elevated his relics on January 8, 870. (But. XIX. 165)
